The Campaign to get Leo a New Computer
If everybody coughs up $20, we can get Leo a new computer for the system that died.

Re: The Campaign to get Leo a New Computer
82 official members * $20/member = $1640
As yourselves this question:
"In one year's time, do I receive $20 of enjoyment out of this forum?"
We spend that much buying lunch. Is there someone here who would not buy Leo lunch, given the opportunity?

Re: The Campaign to get Leo a New Computer
Having received sufficient encouragment (one other poster who thought it was a good idea) I went to Leo's Pay button to try to make a donation. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to make the thing speak English. Can someone give me a clue?

Sure, sounds very reasonable. Leo can you pm me a "giro" number, so I can finally use one of my old Dutch accounts again ;-)

Hooray, I figured it out and coughed up 14 Euro.
Let's show Leo that all those years of dedicated effort mean something, and while we may be lazy leaches -- parasitically sucking the efforts of others -- when prodded to our senses we are capable of something worthwhile.

Re: The Campaign to get Leo a New Computer
I just paid in Euros (14 Euro which is a few cents over $20).
To start, I just clicked on the little Visa logo on this page:
http://wbec-ridderkerk.nl/
Yesterday, all the menus were in (?) Dutch I think. Today they are in English.

Ok, I've donated 40 Euros and the paypal site was in Dutch at the time, it took me a while to work out that I had to use a comma for the decimal place when typing in the amount. Google's language tools also came in handy.
Has the cause of the fault with the machine been determined yet? I was thinking it could just be the power supply that has kicked the bucket. It's the most common fault in our office of PC's. I wish Leo lived close by because I would be happy to pop by and fix it myself.

Hi Dann,
Thanks for the idea and support!
This will atleast make it easier for me to buy a new one and fix the other if possible.
Best wishes,
Leo.

Re: The Campaign to get Leo a New Computer
I am really glad that something good has come of the idea.
You have donated huge amounts of your time to the computer chess community. Now that a machine has died in the line of duty, it is the least thing that we could do to replace it.
