proposal about the timecontrole at WBEC Ridderkerk.........

To all authors which have their engine playing at WBEC-Ridderkerk,

Some people (including myself) find the current setup of WBEC-Ridderkerk
too compicated and to slow (to much time between 2 editions), therefore
I suggest for next editions to play the Premier in 40/40 and all other
divisions in 40/20 (40 moves in 20 minutes).

I hope any author who is interrested gives his opinion about the proposal
below, specially about the change in timecontrole from 40/40 to 40/20!
Other proposals are welcome too!

Proposal for Edition 17 (and next):

Premier: 24 engines - 40/40 - 4RR - 1104 games = 105 days played at a Q9550 (2 cpus/cores a engine allowed)
1st Div: 24 engines - 40/20 - 4RR - 1104 games = 55 days played at a Q9550 (2 cpus/cores a engine allowed)

2nd Div: 24 engines - 40/20 - 4RR - 1104 games = 55 days played at a Phenom 540
3rd Div: 24 engines - 40/20 - 4RR - 1104 games = 55 days played at a Phenom 540
4th Div: 32 engines - 40/20 - 2RR - 992 games = 48 days played at a Phenom 540
5th Div: 84 - 90 engines:
3 qualify groups with 28/32 engines 40/20 - 2RR - 992 games = 3 x 48 days played at a Opteron 244
Final: 16 engines - 40/20 - 2RR - 240 games = 12 days played at a Opteron 244
Mr.Irr: 12 engines - 40/20 - 2RR - 132 games = 6 days played at a Opteron 244
(Total 5th division = 162 days)

Promo A played at 40/40, all other Promo's at 40/20.
New engine qualify at 40/20.

Total time for a complete edition will be about 7 months this way!?

Most reactions sofar looks positive, one proposal for Fischer time controls sofar:

Anyway, one have to be realistic and as you already pointed out, the time between editions gets longer and longer. And in my opinion it is definitely more important to have such a nice big field then you have (almost all engines tested) then just some engines with very long time control. Also it’s a lot of fun to see new entrants marching from version to version through the instances / editions.
Therefore I think your new time scheme is a good idea, maybe you can even find some more days to reduce the total time to 6 month so there would be the possibility to have 2 champions each year."

40/20 is fine by me.

I am just grateful that someone is willing to invest a lot of time and energi into hosting a tournament.

Slow games are good, but it has to be fun! Especially for the one actually running the tournament.
